clutch slave installation

I'm battered and bruised. 2000 Boxster S and I'm trying to install a new clutch slave cylinder. it's in the hole but for the life of me I can't get it to seat in the transmission let alone install the mounting bolt. I can move it forward enough to feel it push against the fork and compress slightly but I'm missing something. What have others used to seat this thing. The alloy cross arms have been removed and the cover plate is off. Working blind here letterly and figuratively . Any help would be appreciated....thanks!
