CV joint question

I recently found that my left side axle had parted from the tranny at the inside CV joint.

There was a dent in the cv joint cover.

I just bolted and tourgued it back in place

I have not ran the car yet!

Am I taking risk with this?

David

??? Do you mean the silver flange in this picture? Or the gold part right at the end?

Either way, if the flanges seat properly to the transmission I would imagine that it should be OK. But don't trust my imagination...

If you didn't use Loctite on the bolts, take it apart and do it over again. Without the use of medium (blue) thread locker, the axle bolts will come loose again.

Thanks for insight.

I will use loctite next time.

The end that is gold (inner CV joint).

There is a small dent in the Axle Shaft Flange Cap.

I ordered one from our sponsor we will see how it goes.

THANKYOU for responding to my inquiry.

David

I had this happen this past summer; it was receently installed and completely separated itself from the trans. Car wouldn't move and I was on a freeway onramp! I got it replaced but still not cool. I hear anecdotally that using non-OEM CV joints can be problematic.

The CV's are not the issue. The bolts torque values are not that high as the bolts are small (29 ft. lbs on the M8 bolts). If a thread locker is not used, they will come loose; it is as simple as that.

Also it would be a good idea to clean the treads on the hubs with brake cleaner prior of applying the Locktite
.
