What does this hose do ?

Hello,

I am working on replacing the water pump and thermostat using a Pelican Parts water pump kit on my 2001 Boxster S. I also bought replacement hoses for some of the other hoses, but I am having a hard time taking them off.

In the attached image, this hose is next to the water pump as shown by the red arrow. Does anyone know what it does ? I am tempted to cut it out and replace it with a new one that I have, but want to make sure I am not damaging anything.

There is a tool for loosening coolant hoses that have taken a heat set to metal parts:



You slide the pointed end underneath the hose, move it around and the hose pops right off..... About $10 on Amazon, works on any size hose.

Thanks. I have this instrument from Harbor Freight. My primary question was what does this hose do ? Will it leak coolant when I take it out ? or is it some vacuum hose or something ?

It looks like a coolant line.
