Rear water drain question

This is our 98 Boxster, doing regular maintenance I noticed the right rear drain basin was ripped, decided to replace it.

Upon further inspection, I'm confused how this is supposed to work. The "channel" highlighted by the arrow, any water running down this path will likely go under the drain basin and not make it to the drain tube.

What am I missing here? It seems any water that goes between this seam will likely end up in the cabin.

Easy enough to put some kind of tape or something on there to seal the seam, curious how it's "supposed" to be or if I'm missing some parts.
