Well Federal Mandates require that Manufacturers selling cars in the US must maintain a complete parts inventory for 10 years. After that, they usually only rely on whatever inventory they have on hand. In addition, the requirement allows Manufacturers to determine what that 10-year supply would be, so that's usually all that they will order from subs.
For a 912 (1965-1965 +1976 (912E)), the availability from Porsche is limited-to-non-existent. But, there is a wealth of NOS and replica parts available from the Aftermarket. Porsche built 34,959 912/912Es and maybe as much as a third to half of those are still on the Road. Parts are generally not a problem. But, as with most Classics,
Go parts (Drivetrain, Suspension and Brakes) are usually more widely available than
Show parts (Trim, Interior, Exterior Trim bits). Hope this helps...
