headlights momentarily went out

I was driving last night and the head lights went out for ~2 seconds while driving. I was turning off/on the high beams and then the lights went out. Quite scary and really glad they came back on. Is it time for a headlight switch replacement?

I had the same problem earlier this month, but took the advice from prior posts to take out the switch and use electrical contact cleaner. It helped my headlight switch as it was starting to act wonky. Much cheaper than a new switch and it worked.

The inside of the headlight switch has very small contacts (given the size of the whole assembly). Cleaner and an eraser work great if you take it apart but I'd be looking for a replacement.

Someone on the Boxster Facebook page mentioned there is VW light switch that can be used. Does anyone have experience or part# for that switch?

Garage
My 2001 S needed part # 4B0-905-849 I recently got mine from Volkswagen of Medford at www.vwpartsnowonline.com I didn't shop around too much but their prices were decent. FWIW I did a lot of research on the forums but I still managed to get confused and initially ordered the wrong part # 4A0-905-849-B

update

I removed and cleaned the switch and also reset the battery connections. Only a couple evening drives since but the lights haven't gone out.
