And since 996 Carreras are now harder to find in the low $20k range, I suspect that it could be dragging up 986 prices as well. My non-expert opinion thinks it's still too early to tell if it's a fad or if it's the start of a trend.

I also agree part of it is the presentation of the car on these auction sites as well as interaction with sellers in the comments section. There's a certain level of trust that's built up with all the photos and write ups with the auction sites like bringatrailer or pcarmarket that you don't have with other used car sales sites like Autotrader. People are going to pay a premium price for that confidence especially if it's a vehicle that you can't see in person.
