Start problem

Hi guys,

i picked up my new to me boxster 1999 2.5L

Everything works fine, although sometimes i turn the key and electronics go off but no ignition. it's not the battery because i just lock, clutch in clutch out lock in unlock and boom everything works fine. doesnt seem to be consistent.

what can it be? ignition switch? old keys? clutch switch?

thanks!

I assume that you mean that the electronics turn on when you turn the key, but the engine won't turn over.

I'd start with the clutch switch since its easy to jumper it to see if the situation improves (or easy/cheap to simply replace). If you jumper the clutch switch be sure to have the trans in neutral if its a manual 5-spd when you try to start the car!

If that doesn't help, then I'd replace the electric portion of the ignition switch (depending on your flexibility, it can be a bit of a PITA).
