Jasper, are you sure those are metal shavings? They don't look it to me. I'm with Quadcammer on this; I think those are gasket-maker from the recent work completed.

Jasper, if you cut open your filter, it would be easier to fish out all the debri and you can see if these are metal (ferrous or not), plastic particles or old sealant

I saved the filter, I値l cut into it and get a better look.

Now that I知 looking at photos, it does look like plastic. But some small particles on the filter are shiny metal color. I hope it is just sealant.
