Non ferrous metal flakes found in oil filter, what can it be
4 Attachment(s)
I bought a 2001 Boxster S with just over 100k miles a few weeks ago and just changed the oil.
The prior owner changed it about 6 months and 2,500 miles ago. He changed the IMS, rear main seal, some valves and lifters, engine gasket set, and a few others things. The car runs great and there is no metal on the magnetic drain plug, but some small metal shavings in the filter. It’s non-ferrous cause nothing on the drain plug and the metal in the filter won’t stick to the plug. I picked out some of the shavings from the filter and wondering if it could be an issue. I’m sending an oil sample out to see what it says. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. |
probably some RTV gasket maker

Jasper, are you sure those are metal shavings? They don't look it to me. I'm with Quadcammer on this; I think those are gasket-maker from the recent work completed.

Jasper, if you cut open your filter, it would be easier to fish out all the debri and you can see if these are metal (ferrous or not), plastic particles or old sealant
