Also note that on my car, the cable is routed through a grommet placed just below the left tail light. this grommet goes towards the rear of the car. So removing the bumper would give you access to the area where the grommet is placed and might make pulling the cable easier.

So what did you do to get in?
The hook had come off?

Somehow a little clip had fallen off. Then one of the cables.
I removed the spoiler, 2 bolts, pulled out the seal and could see the latch. If I would of had a solid flexible rod like a welding rod I would of saved a lot of time by pulling the inside emergency latch. I could see it too.
