With the available discounts, a new 987S is very competitive with a used 986S. Add in the peace of mind of the warranty and knowing everything about the car from the beginning and the math becomes more reasonable. Both $40k and $50k is a lot of money -- for some, the extra $10k is worth the benefits they bring.

I disagree that afluent people don't take pricing into consideration. They didn't get where they are by not caring about prices of things they buy. Sticking with the new car market, not many things can compete with a sparsely optioned 295hp new Porsche mid-engine roadster if you can get it in the mid $50k area. IMHO, of course.
