V1 Remote Display Mirror

I've probably spent more time on this than even the cruise/OBC hack but, finally, it is done! The process involved a lot of experimentation, patience and trying over and over again but I've finally got it to a stage I'm thrilled with. The pictures don't really do it justice, makbe I'll be able to take better pictures in the daylight. Still, I'm not planning on going through all the steps but I do have some extra mirrors so I may end up making a few more, maybe. But, for now, here it is, 100% home made V1 mirror:

There is a mute button on the back (the white knob):

And the V1 itself is now mounted in front of the wind deflector on an acrylic bracket:

Now I just need to get the wire tucked in and it's all set!

Chris.

Hey Chris,

Great work!! I would be interested in one of these provided the cost is not too prohibitive. Please email navarro@flash.net when you establish a price for them.

Outstanding !

If you can do it to a 987 auto-dimming mirror I'd be interested in purchasing one....even if the cost was "prohibitive".

I'm happy to try an auto dimming mirror if someone is willing to send me one, they are $300 from Porsche though which I'm not prepared to lat out right now.

looks great although here stateside I would change the color of the arrows. Attracts tail gaters and iluminating the cockpit could attract attention from Mr. Policeman on the side of the road looking for a target. I might consider talking with someone about getting a non-reflecting plastic film like the kind they use in stage lighting in a neutral color like grey or white.

So if I picked up the tab and had it sent to you, I could be your auto-dimming guinea pig? (with money for your time and trouble). Let me know if you're interested, as well as what the cost outlay would be. I'd also appreciate your subjective evaluation of the potential risk of "screwing it up". Losing the auto-dimming capability would not be a problem for me.

Send me a PM if you'd prefer, I'd also like to know what is involved with the installation on my end, as I'm all thumbs with this kind of stuff.

I just etched a 996 auti-dimming mirror and a couple from 350z's - worked out fine so I think it's safe to say the 987 auto dimming mirror shouldn't be a problem.
