I may have misunderstood what was suggested then. He told me to spray some lubricant on it, not in it. I assume that means the end of the slave cylinder that fits inside the transmission then, rather than into the transmission.

The clutch and throwout bearing were replaced two summers ago, about 20k miles.

If the end of the slave rod needs to be lubricated, the slave needs to be pulled out and a very specific lubricant called Optimol olista longtime 3EP applied in small amounts.
