2001 Black Edition?
Has anyone heard of a 2001 Boxster S “Black Edition”? If so, what makes it special?

I bet it is a one-of-a-kind creation, like this 1998 Gt3 Cup Addition.

The decal makes it special:
Rare indeed, unless those decals are readily available on eBay.

Never is 10+ years on Porsche forums. I have the order sheet Porsche USA used in 2001 and it shows no such. Ask for a picture of the option codes sticker on the inside of the front trunk lid.

I've seen Porsche "Black Editions" in both 911 and Cayman configuration.
Black exterior with matte tone-on-tone Porsche graphics on frunk, special wheels, Sport Chrono, numbered plate, plus yada yada yada.
Know of no Boxster version though.
Just sayin'........

In the UK there is a Black Edition 987.2 Boxster. It has the Spyder engine map and the optional extras much like a 550 Anniversary. Black Edition is just a new marketing name and wasn't used for the 986.

With an estimate of less than ~500 550 SEs imported into the US, full leather, US M030, 18 inch custom painted Carreras, 987 airbox, current asking prices from 15k to 28k USD (if you can find one), etc.,etc., I’d say that the 550SE is a pretty decent “gimmick”. In addition, IMHO it is just a beautiful car with the GT Metalic Silver and Cocoa color combination in conjunction with the Arctic Silver/Seal Gray wheels.
I realize that you and another forum member are considering selling your 550 SEs now, but outside of these two, I’ve only come across two or three others for sale since I started looking in late 2016.
Gimmick or not, the 550 SE is the most rare production 986 ever built.

Funny you say that. I'm now on my second 986 and fluked into the purchase of my SE last year. I've been wanting a 987 for the last 5 years . The car that turned my head was a 2008 design edition boxster S. I've since changed interest to the RS 60 and as of late the GT3 orange limited edition '08. As much as I dislike the idea of these end of the line boxster. I love them just as much
