Boxsters (986body styles) are now considered a ‘Classic Porsche’
Hope Shooter McGavin gets the help he needs. Maybe Woody can hook him up w parts on the cheap... damage doesn’t look too bad.
986 Refered to as Classic Silver Porsche
At least 986s are starting to get general recognition as Classic Porsches...

Or did the article writer just call it a "classic" because it sounds better to say "classic" than "old car." 
Dave, who owns a fifteen year old "classic" Porsche.

They shouldn't have said Classic, but Iconic! Gehehehe
But seriously, after a certain period of time, all porsche are becoming classics. For example 912,918 etc..

Actually, Fellas.....
...Porsche Classic has officially announced the 986 is now supported as a "Porsche Classic" vehicle.
So, yes, our 986 IS a classic.

As Lacostas said, all Porsche models move from "current" to "classic" when they get old enough. It means that parts are typically not stocked at dealers and distribution is handled differently. Nothing more, nothing less.

I been looking at the 987 and the newer Boxsters, I certainly think there is a retro, classic look to the 986. I don't think it was ever meant to masculine like a corvette but rather a simple sports car with subtle curves. When you compare to the new boxster, it is just looks more like a Porsche in my opinion. I like the new ones, I just don't think they will age as kindly.

Yeah I agree. 987 indeed look more "modern" (and it is) cause of the circle headlight (even though it reminds me the Mini Cooper lights), bigger body, renovated interior, and so on. But yeah, I don't know if it has that kind of "retro" look.

I first owned a '97 Boxster, then bought a 2013 981 S with PDK and loaded new for $84,000. Drove it 5 years with 10,200 miles on it could only get $43,000 IF I wanted to sell it! Traded it for a 1965 Painted Dash 912 with the potential of exceeding the purchase price of the 981 soon! I bought another '97 986 with lots of options at 123,000 miles, a $60,000 new car in perfect condition for $4,500! I'm now happier than with the 981!

Wow that should have been quite a transition! How did you feel on the 986 (2.7 I guess ?) after the Cayman? Cayman is superb but the lack of "rooftop" is a no-go for me
