Boxster Track Tires

I did my first track day ever at Thunderhill (northern California) with my 2000 Boxster 2.7 last March. It was great fun except for the very bad under steer. I was running my regular street tires: Nitto Motivo, 205/50 ZR17 front, 255/40 ZR17 rear on stock 7.0 front and 8.5 rear rims. I determined to get some track tires and rims for my next outing. After a lot of research I settled on Proxes R1R. I also up sized my fronts to 225/45 ZR17 with the rear the stock size. I was running 31 pounds warm (not cold) which became 36 hot. This past week I did my 2nd track day. AMAZING results. Virtually NO under steer. Unbelievable grip. I could not believe the difference. I was able to push my car deep into the corners and then properly use those incredible brakes. I hope this helps someone out there trying to figure out what tires to buy. BTW, they are pretty quiet and a dream to drive on the street and highway. Happy as a clam in Sacramento.

Yep, upsize the fronts to 225 and getting stickier tires makes an incredible difference to an already awesome car. Balances out the steering nicely.

I have an extra set of sticky Hankook R-S3's on the stock rims as well for those race days.

I also plan on getting wider front tires for next spring. I'm currently running Kumho sport tires rear and Kumho comfort tires front, which means massive understeer as soon as they get a little bit warm.

255/40-17 and 225/45-17 Michelin PS2 is what I plan on getting. That ought to help.

Nice update and glad to hear that the sticky 225's worked well for you!

Any pic's or video?
