Back in a Boxster

New to the 986 forum but not to the Boxster. First Boxster was new in 2001, guards red with black base car with 17" wheels and PSM. Second was used with 6k miles and now this 2003 S. I looked at moving up to a 991.1 from my 997 but I didn't like the size and the complexity of the car. For pure driving my 87 air cooled was far more fun and that made me think about the fun I had with the Boxster and its far more simple and engaging personality. I ended up putting a new Mercedes C Class cab in the garage and the Boxster S. Searched for a guards red and black to match the one I had new and found a nice 56k mile car. So far I've had about $3k of needed / neglected basic service work done at the Porsche dealer and my Indy. Pulled the Sumitomo's for Michelin Pilot Super Sports. Need to schedule RMS retro. Looking forward to some engaging back road drives this summer. And I'm happy to be in the Boxster over the 911. The car 9/10th of the 911 for a lot less money and it handles better.

Congrats....what is it about these Boxsters that are so damn addicting? They are like a drug.

Why did you come back to the Boxster? Did you regret selling your last one?

No regrets having sold the previous Boxsters I just moved on to 911 ownership. My 997 was more garage queen and in 2016 I think I put less than 500 miles on the car. I also worried that I might do some off roading pushing it too hard. The Boxster is inexpensive, and while I don't expect or plan any off road excursions if it were to occur, it would be easier to write off the car and move on to another. I plan to put miles on this one and enjoy it for the fantastic car that it is. Adding miles and road scars are not going to have that much impact on residual value at this point.

One thing I don't miss is the "Boxster Chop" and cleaning of the plastic window. The other I noticed between the 996.1 and .2 is that with the roof up seems to be far last rollers and noise from the roof. Even on the new 01 I had it made a lot of noise from day one. The 03 with 56K miles has very few at all.
