Porsches in Scotland

Thought I'd share this photo. I was in Scotland last week and visited Balmoral Castle. Lucky timing, because the official Porsche factory Tour of Scotland was passing through.

Cars were all brand new, registered in Germany, and left-hand drive - despite Scotland being right-hand drive. (Don't get me started on how scary it is driving in Scotland!) Most were GTS models and more than half were convertibles. One car had PCCBs.

I looked up the tour details on the net and it looks like over $7K (USD) per person for the 5 day tour, and two of those days aren't driving. I think the Tour sounds cool, but I'd rather just buy a cheap 986 and drive the wheels off it for that kind of money.

Great Pic!! I get what you mean about driving in Scotland. I just came back from Ireland. I rented a BMW right had drive for a few days, and drove around. Scared the carp out of myself, a few times!!

To me, most of the roads I drove are glorified golf cart paths, with a 60 mph speed limit, hilly curves, no shoulder, and oncoming semi trucks. The locals apparently have no fear and a Colin McRae spirit.

It would be a blast in a Boxster, especially if there were no oncoming traffic!

Nice picture and story. We went to Scotland for our vacation last year. I saw a few Porsches in Edinburgh, and that was about it for the whole time. On the Isle of Mull, our bus driver pointed out the church, pub and police station near harbor for the ferry from Oban. He said you didn't have a good New Year's eve if you didn't visit all 3. I've been to Singapore, Hong Kong, London and Scotland, but have never driven a car on the left side of the road. I've been happy to leave the driving to others each time!

You get used to it. I drive my cars which are RHD In Europe most which is LHD. We drive on the left and they drive on the right. Sometimes I go to Europe and hire a car and it will be LHD and you quickly get adjusted to that too.

As for hilly curves and no shoulder those are the sorts of roads that most car enthusiasts love here in UK and Europe! The tour pic you see above, there will be hundreds of those both paid for and organised or done with just friends to various locations around Europe but especially amongst the Alps and Pyrennees where you then have hiily curves with no shoulder but several hundred feet up sometimes with armco sometimes without.

Europe? Swiss and French Alps? pfffff... Asia man, Asia!

Not castles and $5 million pastel Porsche line ups though... just donkeys and chickens

I've passed a variety of wildlife in the French Alps and in Spain including llamas in the French Alps, sheep in Wales (no surprises there!) and cows in Austria

That all sounds like a paradise, less the lamas. Hope I get up there one on day. Did Scotland~Edinburgh twice, and Milton Keynes~London (back and forth) 2,983,500+ times though - you want to see sheeps?!

Most of MyChina's famous paradise-roads are infested with venomous snakes, scorpions, insane monkeys, and few of those roads comes with wild tigers resting on the warm asphalt. Did I mention about that infamous pinhead size insect? One bite = paralysis for 48hrs. You stay in your car when you have a flat tire here LOL
