IMS.....Yeah yeah. I searched.
I am looking at replacing the IMS.
I have done research and think that an original IMS may be the fit for me.
I drive aggressively and don't tend to keep rev's low.
I'm thinking the cheap and easy way to go it original IMS and get on with my day.
Although I'm liking the DOF replacement.
The car has almost 200,000 km and still seems fine.
Don't want an issue. I'm thinking about replacing this year.
What is the most reliable replacement on the market today?

I chose the IMS solution from Jake Raby. Gave me great peace of mind. Oil fed and no ball bearings. Who could ask for anything more.
But you never said what year your Boxster was.

I have the Solution as well, but any fix from L&N and Jake is the way to go. They solved the problem
POrsche refused to address without a replacement engine.

I've been in discussions with a certified IMS Solution installer in the Seattle area. When I asked him whether to choose the L&N IMS Retrofit Pro or IMS Solution for my low mileage 2002 S, he said the IMS Solution for me was overkill. He said for the way I use my car (light driving, no racing, strictly "Sunday cruising" sort of stuff), the IMS Solution is a waste of money, and he recommended choosing the IMS Retrofit Pro.
When I asked him why he recommended the lesser fix, he said I'll likely never wear it out. It's warranted for six years or 75,000 miles, and it's unlikely I will ever reach that many miles, (although I could easily hit that many years of ownership.) He said he's installed more than 150 of the Retrofit kits, and has never had any of them fail.
Hope this helps a bit.

I had the LN Single Row Pro installed on my 2003 S about 5 years and 23,000 miles ago. The original bearing was in good shape still, but for me the peace of mind was worth it. The IMS Solution was still relatively new then. Replacing the single row, sealed steel ball bearing unit with the open double row ceramic was enough for me. As others have said, the IMSB is just one potential failure point on these engines. If you're getting a Raby built special like RFuerst's "The Beast" or just a full engine rebuild, go with the IMS Solution but otherwise just go with the correct LN IMSB for your particular engine. Just my opinion, I am not a certified Porsche technician, don't play one on the internet and didn't stay at a Holiday Inn last night.

A couple options here and it's very much *not* what you just stated about going with the original. Raby/LN, Pedro, and EPS are some search terms that you can add with "oil feed" or "DOF" to get a better understanding of the differences -where the oil comes from, how it is applied. Maybe throw "JFP" in there for some independent 'shop-side' observations.

Super, I think most will agree preemptive change is a good practice by that mileage.

Fuzz, You asked about DOF. It had a brief period of favor then faded . It may do no harm but the discussion now seldom includes DOF for reasons you would have discovered in your Search.You may find it wise to use RND as your Benchmark ,not EPS.
