RMS Question
Hi Guys
I have a 2004 with a 3.2 with 125000 kilometers on it.
I'm doing the IMS bearing and I'm wondering if I should do the RMS???
It looks perfect!, so I don't know if I should mess with it??
Any advice?

I did mine while right there. Easy. Done. Cheap.
They all look perfect until they fail......

IMO, I can't think of a reason why you wouldn't replace it now. You certainly don't want to go through this effort again for the cost of an RMS? Given the mileage, are you also doing the clutch and associated bits while your in there?

Any easy way to check the depth of the seal when installed?
I'm also doing the following :
flywheel, pressure plate, friction plate, ims bearing, clutch slave, chain tensioners, AOS, guide tube, pilot pin, pulling the oil pan (just to check).
I'm also changing the brake/clutch fluid.
Am I missing anything??

The seal in the engine is a wear item and will fail based on age and mileage. Timco is right, if you are there, do it.

Is there an easy way of setting the depth of the seal?
How critical is having the seal at a certain depth?

The seal goes in to the mm and sits just inside the old wear point. I used the bell end of 3"PVC and it was the perfect install tool. Then set a small depth gauge.
You drill a hole in the old one then put a screw in that hole and remove. Don't push it into the motor.

As Timco said a plumbing fitting works like a charm...just make sure you have your depth set correctly as the new RMS has a critical depth.

What did you make the stopper out of?
Did you glue it in place?
