There are a couple reasons the temp light flashes, do a search for info. Check the coolant level in the expansion tank, it is probably low. Look for steam condensation above the cap, could indicate a bad cap or bypass valve. What color is the expansion tank? If nice white good, but if it is yellow like old parchment then could be leaking, check trunk under the lining. Lastly look under the car for white coolant residue, especially the water pump.
