Oil weight to use?
So, looking for 10W40, came up dry. ie: No Mobile1 or PurePlus Penzoil. What is everyone using with good results? 10w30 ok?, i live in a moderate climate. Norhtern Cali, car wil never be driven below 40*F.

The car came with 0w 40. You need an oil that has a summer weight of 40. So if you can't find 10w 40 and that's what you wish to use then go on amazon and buy it. 0w40, 5w40 are what's usually recommended. If you stray from the weights porsche suggests don't be surprised when you have an expensive problem on your hands. Don't use "the store next to my house was out of x brand" as an excuse to throw whatever in your motor.

5W-40 or 10W-40 will provide you with superior film strength to 0W-40 oils. The ideal oil for your car would be a high film strength 5W-40 with very high ZDDP levels. Currently, the only oil that meets that criteria is the Joe Gibbs DT40.

DT 40 is not a racing oil, it is a street use oil. Gibbs also makes racing oils, but they should not be use on the street as they are not designed to go lots of miles.

Northern California, 20w-50 recommended for ambient temps above 90. Lived in Napa and Sacramento where temps went above 100 from Late May-Early September.
Always ran Castrol 20W-50 in my air-cooled Super Beetle in No. Cal. and do so now here on Okinawa with my H2O-cooled 2000 S.

Only use the DT40 if you do the BR30 flush (about 200-400 miles) first.

The breaking in oil flush is the optimal approach, but it is not really critical. A lot of people simply do a good drain and refill with the DT40. Once you get past an oil change or two, you will be in the same position as if you did the flush.
