side airbag removal w/o turning on reset light?

I need to remove the driver's-side interior door panel to effect a window-switch repair. If I disconnect the battery before doing this, will that prevent the airbag-inop light from going on after I disconnect the airbag wiring (which is a necessary step in removing the door panel)?

Obviously I can take the car to the local Porsche shop to have the warning light reset after I reinstall the airbag and door panel, but it will be easier if I don't have to do this.

Yes, disconnect the battery before starting, but also watch out for static discharges, which can carry enough power to trigger one of these units. You really do not want to get hit by one of these things a close range.
