The plastic could have been deposited by the chain ramps. That is when the durametric cable comes in handy to check the cam deviations.

Found oil in my spark plugs - what do I do? Do I install new plugs or do I need to address this issue with another part?

I thought the o rings were in the cam housing? Anyways the ring at the end of this coil pack was weathered and just crumbled off, yay


Note: For model year 2003 and newer, the plastic spark plug tubes were replaced with the metal tubes that only get serviced during engine disassembly.
From the 2003 Boxster Service Information Book - under engine changes:
"The oil protection tubes are now a component part of the valve lifter housing and sealed to the cylinder head cover with formed oil seal rings."

I guess I'll just use this thread to chronicle my build

As some of you have seen, my seats are totally shredded and pretty much scrap. Since buying the car I've been hunting down some sport seats out of a 996 or 986 that had no tears, scratches, or rips - was looking for a 7/10 in terms of appearance.

After searching eBay and CL, the going rate for sport seats is about $1k per seat in decent condition. I called up LA Dismantlers and they happened to have a pair of seats in decent condition. I got the pair for $1k shipped.

Decided that I would replace the seats today, in 90F and 75% humidity Here are some pics from today. The only issue I encountered is that I have a "airbag failure" warning light, how do I clear it?

Seats look great!
I guess you didin't disconnect the battery before starting the seat R/R. You're going to need a trip to an indy or the dealer to reset your airbag light.

My plugs have 4 ground posts on each plug.

Can someone tell my what this drain line is for, location is to the left of rear passenger tire, next to transmission.

I was troubleshooting my AC and when I recharged the system and had the AC on low with engine running there was a lot of fluid exiting from this pipe - smelled like coolant or refrigerant. I'm slightly concerned due to the volume of fluid, checked the Bentley and it states that AC drain is near center front of the car - under the dash.

Coolant tank overflow drain I bet. Pour a little water on the top of the coolant tank - Not in the tank, but by the side of the cap. I bet it flows out that tube.

Roof drain tubes go down in front of the rear fenders, then come out at the bottom of the fender, forward of the wheel.

Maybe. Is it hotter or did you drive harder today than normally?
Maybe the cap, maybe the bleeder valve, maybe the tank. I'm betting on just a little excess bleeding out from heat/driving.

Any moisture or condensate on the trunk lid inside over the filler cap? Any moisture under the plastic tray in the oil/ water fill compartment?

Slight moisture around the coolant filler cap nothing underneath the tray or on the carpet.

Just ordered one...thanks for the diagnosis, anything else I should look out for. If the cap is bad shouldn't this be an indication of low pressure in the coolant tank?

No. I'm sure just a bit was getting past. Maybe just steam vapors. Check the fluid level when warm and level. There's an indicator on the tank. If WP was failing or stat stuck closed, you'd have over heating too. Remember, that tank has been known to fail commonly.

Thanks Timco, yeah I've heard about how common the tank failures are, luckily the tank itself seems to be ok.

Now that one issue has been resolved can someone help me narrow down my AC issues - here's a list of signs/symptoms:
- AC blows hot air only
- HVAC unit appears to be working correctly, snowflake is visible on display, tested system on Lo and fan on high
- replaced fuse E7 and D6
- the AC is blowing air, the blend doors open (can hear them)
- hissing noise coming from the AC vent as well as from the condenser pipes in the frunk (sounds like an air leak) but I can't find source
- both condenser pipes are hot to the touch
- system holds pressure at 25, recharged the system with 30oz r314a but still no cold air

At this point I'm thinking it's the compressor - how can I verify/test? Anything else I can lookout for that will help narrow down the checklist?
