What option goes here?

There are two oval inserts on the dash, on the far left and right. Were these for some option I don't have, or for something stock on the 911?

Likely never available in USA.

Would be for halogen headlights only, as German law requires automatic self-leveling when HID headlights are fitted.

I couldn't find any evidence that it was ever actually used for anything. Maybe the option never panned out.

It is supposed to be for the Litronic leveling system, but I have never seen a 986 with anything in that location. It could be a unicorn option, like the built in phone.

I feel like something should go there. Maybe the oil slick and caltrops button. Something.

I was wondering the same thing. Thanks.

With these tempermental ignition switches, maybe fewer keys on the Pcar ring would be good.

By European regulations, the leveling system has to be automatic, and not manually adjustable.

That said, according to the OEM service manual, the two plugs at the ends of the dash need to be removed during removal of the dash assembly, so there may be access to fasteners behind the plugs

I think this is the most logical explanation for that cap/cover.

It does make a great place for a garage opener, ejection seat, oil slick button.

here you go:
GENUINE PORSCHE 996 C2 4 HEAD LAMP LEVEL SWITCH IN GLOSS BLACK 99661323001 USED
that's the switch to adjust the lights height manually.
doesn't have to do with unicorn options just based on the country the vehicle meant to.
back in the day when i used to own a stereo shop in Israel, all Porsche cam with GSM antenna and mic.
installing after market hands free kit was a breeze.

Thanks for the advice about the key ring!
