A good link to decode the engine serial numbers?, when measuring rhe oil cooler what are the specs?

An S car should have the larger oil cooler than a base 2.5L car:

The 2.5 and 2.7 are the same, but the '97s have a different part number. Here's a clip from the Katalog:



The cooler off my scrapped 2.7 is 2-3/4" tall. I can't seem to find a cooler for a 3.2 anywhere around here to measure.

Sure a 2.5L, got the same here (ROW).

According to the legend, mine miraculously made it to the 60k miles range recently and still running strong. In that case they must be quite good engines

Sounds really good at high rpm, lightweight and all that. I'd say keep + install an aftermarket cat/pipes/muffler on it. Fun, loud & fast little thing for sure

Cool find

ps: sad to hear my boxster car worth $4,500 these days lolllll Makes me proud'er to drive a daily Passat

I didn't find a good chart for the 986s. I ended up finding two threads on Rennlist and picking a bit of info from each:

The V-Z didn't quite work for me, so I found this posted by Macster:

My info is the remanufactured engines retain their original serial numbers.
