Back to Stock... Tail lights this Time

I have got this bug to put certain items I've changed on the Boxster back to stock... kind of. I took out the double din Kenwood and went back to the CDR-220. With that I lost the Blue Tooth and back up camera. Now I am changing the tail lights back to the amber and red. Next is the front side lights. Nuts, I know. I'll keep the '03 top with the glass window and the '03 Carrera Light wheels though. It just seems that if I have a 15 year old car it should retain some of the original looks that makes it a 15 year old car.

I am with you. I haven't had my car all that long and I like it just the way it is. I bought it with aftermarket wheels already on it and I am seriously considering looking for a set of twists to change it back to stock. And, I like the CDR-220 just fine.

Instead of the CDR-220, why don't you try another Becker model? Some of them were mounted in the 9x6 line as options and they look close to stock.

I put in a Becker Indianapolis Pro with navigation, speakerphone, Bluetooth, an AUX connection, MP3 playback and orange display.

Hey Chuck, if you ever want to go back to stock on that top, I guess I could find it in my heart to trade you my plastic window.

I have the same obsessive, compulsive personality. Don't know why, but everything must be 100% stock/factory, down to the radio.

Haaa.... very good. No, I leave the top down all the time anyway so I am good.

Now, if I could only put my wife of 39 years back to "stock" I would be a happy camper.

You're right, that is a great nice looking unit that would keep the OEM look with some nice features.

Well I am not really concerned about keeping my car stock, but I must say that I do prefer the stock tail lights on that red car!

I guess I'm a little strange. I'm fine with upgrading the interior, I have a tablet in the dash, and an upgraded head unit. But I have the outside of the car completely stock.

Nope..I will change anything n everything as long as I like it better than the original..of course I look for a long time before I decide on any changes n I do stock pile my original parts just in case I get a wild hair n decide maybe I don't like the new look as much as I did at first....But all in all I DO love my Boxster!!!

I think what you're doing is awesome! I've always been more a fan of keeping vehicles stock. They perform great and look clean and well balanced right out of the factory (vehicles like the Pontiac Aztec notwithstanding).

PS: as for the plastic window... Okay, I'll give you that one! LOL.

i'm not a purist but when it comes to my Boxster, there's nothing I feel the need to change. I love the way it looks and handles. Stock stereo sounds outstanding.

@nine8six

Best thing about your car is it looks like it could have came from the factory like that if they kept the 986 around for a few more years and made an RS model or some exclusive options or something.

I've got absolutely nothing against the stock look of our cars but I, for one like the clear taillights and side markers. I also love the LED lighting for interior and trunks...such an improvement in the amount of light available out of one the limited amount of light fixtures the car has.

Of course, your car looks great either way and if you get tired of stock you can always go back the other way (again)!

Either way, enjoy!

That's stock!

It's the antenna for the elusive option 618 Preparation for telephone installation.
