The abandoned Porsche, and more ghost town stuff...

Well I found the "barn 356", and it was clearly raced, likely back in the 1970s. It has one rust spot but the rest appears solid. Unfortunately it has also been cut.
The owner was out of town, but I left my number with his son.










The car sits at the edge of a very remote ghost town called Navina. Now just a grid of overgrown dirt streets with a few foundations, a couple of structures and an old grain elevator, but apparently 100 years ago it was something.

Also spotted this old 924 on the way back on flat tires, and a tracker bass boat style paint job!

Ghost town is right. It must have been one of the many towns that literally blew away in the Dust Bowl 30's. What's left of the interior? I look forward to hearing the history of the car.

Interior was complete but shabby. restorable to be sure. The big cutouts around the rear wheel wells to allow the fat tires it what I was referring to. I would assume the inner wells are cut and modified too.

Oh I see, that's not that uncommon fortunately. Would be a neat project if you can get a good deal.

You'd be surprised at the number of abondoned ghost towns in the middle of America that resulted from the interstate and highway system bypassing small towns.

When I was a child, my grandparents took me to a family reunion in grandmas home town of Eagleville, MO. The "highway" leading to the town was used so little that tall weeds were growing up through cracks all over the road. I think there were three occupied homes out of maybe 100 and all businesses boarded up. I thought for sure that it would be completely desolate by now, but it has taken a surprising turn for the better and has even grown since.

This particular town, what little history I could eke out, was developed in 1907 along with 3 other towns in the area because of a railroad being extended through. Since there is no trace of a railroad anywhere, I assume the towns died with it. I haven't found any evidence of Navina surviving past WWII, which could also be a factor.
Most ghost towns in Oklahoma apparently died from: Oil Busts, Fire destroying the entire downtown, Railroads closing, The Depression, The Dust Bowl, Modern highways, and WWII. Between 1925 and 1942, many were punched in the gut by all of the above in a row.

I am also blown away by cars like this being left out to rot as if they were a 1980 Chevy Citation.
This one is right next to a barn that is probably just filled with junk! (Who knows, might be filled with Duesenbergs.... sort of doubt it)

Wow, what a cool find. If it has the matching numbers engine and trans that would really be something. Unfortunately a lot of these cars were chopped up and treated like any used race car. Even so as long as it's not too far gone from rust it will be worth saving.

It has an engine which has also been modified. I'm not versed well enough to tell if it is a correct Porsche engine.
Does anyone know if they make patch panels to repair the cut quarters? I assume they do.

Oh come on, he put a tarp over it, what more do you guys want?! Great find and post! Even in it's rough condition, it would fetch quite a bit of money. Hopefully the owner doesn't know that.

There has to be replacement panels available. I wouldn't let that deter you from purchasing it.

Did you see the burned barn find 69 Dodge Daytona that sold at Mechum for $90K? The engine compartment had a small fire and there was barn debris over the rest of the car. The wing was mostly frayed fiberglass. It was far messier looking than this 356. You'd be amazed what someone will spend for a "barn fresh" messy car.

On a side note, in the late 1800s my hometown of Wayne, NE and nearby LaPorte were competing for the soon to be built rail line to go thru their respective towns. The RR would only go thru one of the towns and left it up to the two towns to decide who got the line. Legend has it, the towns decided to play a softball game and the winner got the RR. Wayne won, got the rail line, and LaPorte disappeared. The depot is now a Godfather's Pizza.

When you really look at it, and judging from the debris under the car (no tire digging, same leaves/branches as surroundings), it has been placed there a few months ago if not only a few weeks. Looks as if the owner knows all about 'back yard finds' and wanted to advertise the car as such. Sale tactics!

Owner clearly knows its value. Me think he is waiting for the Garage Monkeys to turn up with their camcorder crew

That's a lot of work. Would be intersting how big the holes are below these funny side skirts.
