This is why I don't drive my 986 in the winter.

This is my Jeep after a few days of them salting the roads. Imagine at least two more months of this. It takes many rainy days in the spring to get it off of the roads. Not to mention the 128 inches of snow we average around here. By February the snow banks are twice as high as my mailbox lol.

I have always had a beater car since 2001. 1990 Ford Probe, 1992 Honda Prelude Si 4WS, 1992 Honda Accord LX sedan, and now a 1997 Honda Accord wagon. Around my parts, if my beater can't get through the snow, I just stay home. We don't get snow like you guys up there.

I wouldn't mind a car like a Subaru Forester/WRX if I lived up there.

Good choice on winter beater though!

I understand

I grew up in NNY, went to school in Western NY, and lived in Saratoga for several years. I feel your pain. And a winter beater is the way to go.

I'm glad we don't poison the roads where I live.

$1000 10 years ago, 200k miles on the clock and she still loves the snow.
I originally planned to replace it years ago, but it just won't quit running!

I can say this because I have worked at Chrysler (although no longer employed there).

I wasn't an engineer, but had lots of buddies who were, and the old saying was:

"Most Chrysler products will run badly longer than most cars run at all"

That Neon will run forever my friend.

Speaking of Neon's this is a hilarious article from the late 90's about a group of guys who rented one for $20 and it took it drag racing. If you have time for a quick read, I guarantee you'll laugh. Link below.

Cheers!

Say 'Bye to Neon

Bummer! I can't imagine putting my car away for the winter

I drove my Boxster to work this morning via the alternate route in the mountains

In the bay area once you get out of the city and traffic there are some great roads. Enjoy!

I love my old Jeep, and it comes in handy...

But snow and ice storms here are rare and short-lived. Sand is typically used instead of salt. The jeep is great for deep stuff, but on slick stuff the Boxster is more stable with better traction (on all season tires).

I don't see what the problem is
A good set of snow tires and a car wash ever week or so to get the salt off:

I know that route well! Worked for many years off of Arastradero. Sound like we need to get a Bay Area Drive organized!!

Lots of pics of beaters....yet none of them are rusty in the slightest! Remind me again why you aren't driving the box all year?
