You should really pass on the idea of getting a 97. First model year had a lot of problems and the subframe is weaker than the 1998's and up. Just get a 1998 and call it a 1997

The other thing my car does not have that everyone else's seems to have is an external temp sensor in the front bumper. They added it right at the end of 1997 production. It allows the AC to work better and you can turn on OBC and the outside temp will populate in the cluster. On my car it just shows "---"

On the other hand, if you can find a 1997 garage queen with no miles on it and the original motor (doubtful) and with all the OEM equipment and spare and toolkit, etc. it could become an increasing value automobile at some point. Many of them have had their motors replaced under warranty though for D chunk cylinder wall issues, slipped sleeves, and RMS leaks leading to catastrophic oil loss.

That was the plan, get as minty of an example as I could find. It'd be kept stock, though. Maintenance-wise they can't possibly be worse than any of the Volkswagens I've owned... and I've had two on the Mk4 Golf chassis.

A little over a year ago I saw this one on Craigslist and decided that I 'needed' a Boxster.

It was sold shortly before I contacted the seller. It was while researching the car that I found the Forum and eventually found that it had been listed here too.
Shortly after that I bought my black '99 and my wife told me that she should have a white one. The white one needed a new engine and I got an Arctic Silver parts car. Now I'm back to looking for the right Arctic Silver with a red interior.
Generally I keep 6-7 cars registered. Any more and they just don't get driven.
