I would like to ask you if the below links fits to my boxster 2.7 2004

02 Boxster s rwd Porsche 986 Gauges Instrument Cluster 98664121401 180 625 | eBay


what is your opinion on that? replacing the GAUGES INSTRUMENT CLUSTER?

Mine is black and I would prefer to replace it to white as the link on ebay

What year is your Boxster?
That gauge cluster should work for 01-04.

Why not do a 996 cluster upgrade?

Looks like that cluster is for a Tip-Tragic car. Not sure what transmission you're running in your car, but that might be watch out for you.

I believe that it will work. Before you buy it I would check the plugs on the back of your unit to varifiy they are the same color as the ones on the unit on eBay. However, you are going from a 2004 to a 2002 unit. I wouldn't be surprised if they made some cosmetic changes to the digital display. I would also figure another $100 to have the odometer reading changed to your Boxsters.

I agree with emore93.... shop around and find an aluminum (white) faced 2002/2004 996 cluster and install one of those. I did it and it was a tad over $500 all in as a DIY project.

I bought my 996 cluster from the same eBay vendor - qualityporscheparts. IMHO, they are great. I have bought several items from them.

The cars mileage is logged in the ECU and the cluster. In order to get the new cluster mileage to match your actual mileage, you will need to copy and paste the files from your cluster onto the new cluster using an EEPROM reader.

That works in the early clusters, but on the '01 and up the EEPROMs are encrypted, so you can't just read the EEPROM, modify it and rewrite it. If you are lucky and get the exact same part number and firmware revisions you _might_ be able to swap files, but in my experience that doesn't work.

It can still be done obviously, but you need more equipment and software to do it.

Did you have the steering wheel re-wrapped?

Mario - Talk to Qmulus. He might have an extra 996 gauge cluster laying around and may even be able to reset the mileage for you AND his connectors (for the oil sender & OBC) are the exact same as the ones used in our wiring harness. The ones called out in the Pelican article (VW part #) are close but are difficult to push into the connector.

If you are thinking about doing the upgrade, think about the OBC hack too.

Yeah... I have just over 26,000 miles on it now. I am working on driving it more. I couldn't enjoy it more when I do drive it. I am going to drive it to Rennsport next month so I should put some miles on it then.
