No music!...

So I'm cruising along top down listening to my music jammin' to the beat when all of the sudden... silence. The radio is still on as I can see the radio station but nothing coming out of the speakers.

The manual says I have an amp in the front trunk. Is it common for these to go bad? Blow a fuse? I may use this as an opportunity to go aftermarket.

Any feedback would be appreciated!

Sometimes my original Bose radio fails to turn on, although it lights up with word "Porsche." If I press the CD button with no CD in, that seems to wake it up. Might be worth a try. Let us know what works.

On rare occasion mine won't work though it powers up. Here's my process:

1. Turn off car and remove key
2. Open driver's door, then close it
3. Lock with key fob
4. Unlock with key fob
5. Open and close driver's door
6. Restart car
7. ????
8. Profit

I would pull the radio (very easy with the below tools) and check the rear connectors. It is rare that amps just die like that. Also, plug in a CD (or cassette) and see if that portion works.

While it wasn't a regular occurrence for me, it did happen a couple times. Just stopped playing, but the display sure looked like it was still on. Eventually returned on it's own after a couple starts and stops.

What?

My Boxster has a radio? Wow, I'm always listening to the Flat 6 Symphony.

Mine would do that every once in awhile. If i just took the face plate off, and then put it back on. It would start to work again. Ended up going after market, so I would have Bluetooth.

I forgot about this. pony13ca is right. Take the faceplate off and wipe off the contacts on the faceplate and radio. Great call.

Good evening fellas,

I tried the suggested feedback except removing the faceplate? Does the faceplate actually come off? My faceplate will pop open downward so you can access a cassette opening.

I hope the output stage of the radio or amplifier didn't go kaput.

Just a follow up. I actually had a chance to mess with the car this evening. The Bentley manual showed the amplifier 15A fuse location D9. I checked it and sure enough it was blown. I replaced it and the amplifier came to life.

If it happens again I'll have to troubleshoot further. When the fuse blew the ambient temperature was over 100. Perhaps the amp became to warm? Reaching now..
