Both engines have the IMS issue which is probably the scariest problem. They both have common problems with Air oil separators, MAF sensors etc.
The best advice I could give you was what was given to me by a Porsche dealer. If you get the smaller motor you should get the manual. If you get the bigger motor then you can live with either. This was based on making the most of the limited power of the 2.7. Hope this helps.

You can get more action from the smaller motor with a stick. The Tip won't really rev and move the smaller engine like you can with a stick. The bigger engine will move the car much faster with a Tip.
