				Factory rolled fenders...?

Ok, this is just a stupid, do nothing thread, but I'm curious and this a slow day on the forum...
My car came with 18 x 10's on the rear and 18 x 8's on the front. Front and rear fenders are rolled. Did they do this at the factory?

I often see 18 x 10's for sale with the stipulation that spacers are needed, but none of my wheels have spacers. I realize this probably has something to do with offset, but I'm not a wheel guy and this is one area in which I'm somewhat ignorant.
Just curious. I have no intention of changing wheels or anything like that.

Particlewave; Took photos of my car for comparison. Rear edge is flat. Front has rolled lip as yours. My car is a 98 and had original 16" wheels so I doubt they were rolled. Hope this helps.

Your fenders are not rolled. Mine on my 2003 S are the same. They would not need to be rolled, and spacers would not be needed, because the 18" wheels yours came with were a factory Boxster option. The 18" wheels that need spacers are for 911s. I have 18x8 and 18x10 Carrera light wheels, which were put on my Boxster by the previous owner and need spacers, because the offset is for a Carrera, not a Boxster. |

I think you have 993 wheels, I think the rear offset is 43mm. Does your rear wheel have offset by the valve stem? If not you have aftermarket copys.Quote:

  No, max 986 wheel size 18" X 7.5" & 18" X 9". Assembly line doesn't have time to roll fenders.

I think you're right. I didn't find any numbers by the valve stem, but did find the part #. 993.362.138.01
I guess they are 993 wheels.

			http://www.porsche.com/all/media/pdf/originalparts/usa/986_USA_KATALOG.pdf
Look on page 153. According to the Porsche original parts "USA_KATALOG.pdf," part # 993 362 138 01 is for stock, (2004) Boxster wheels in size 9 J x 18. You sure yours are 10"? Odd that they would list that part # for 9 J x 18" wheels if yours are 10" ! Unless they changed the part number to indicate a different wheel width between 1999 and 2004...

			No, I'm not sure
They measure 10" OD (edge to edge), but I'm sure they are 9's based on the part # (probably measured bead to bead, not actual width).

My fault...it was an off day. Took some Tylenol PM last night and have been really out of it all day

PW - if the width and offset aren't cast into the front of the wheel on either side of the valve stem, they will be cast on one of the spokes on the back side of the wheel.

Yes you measure width of the inside barrel which is 1" less than outside to outside

Yes, the standard method of measurement is by the inside bead. if it was a steel wheel it would be less of a difference as steel wheels do not need to be made so thick.
