center console locked forever?

I replaced the hinge on the center console. That's great, and everything worked out fine. Then I went to try locking the console and make sure it would stay closed. Now I can't unlock it.

I don't know if something is jammed up or what. I jiggle, I push and pull... nada.

Any suggestions or words of wisdom? Perhaps this has happened to someone before.

I have 4-ton hydraulic spreader jaws that WILL get that thing open. You're welcome to use them.

Is it actually locked, or just stuck?

Try pushing the button repeatedly while pulling up on the lid with light to moderate force.

Sounds Like the same designer engineered the Boxster Console that did the Glove Box in my 993 what a Cluster F design of the latch mechanism.

Does the key not turn, or does the button not push?
Or does the button push, but it doesn't unlatch?

Nothing in mind, just trying to clarify while we think it through. I think ParticleWave's extra jigglin' and crankin' and pushin' is certainly worth a try, these little consoles seem a bit...cheap.

I found the solution!

Show the problem you're having to a co-worker who can help you out. As it turns out, the co-worker doesn't have to do anything other than look at you like you've got 3 heads as you thoroughly describe the problem only to demonstrate the trouble and the key just turns and moves to the unlock position just as it should.

That takes care of the issue right away.

Just for reference (not that it matters anymore) the button would push, and the key went in and out, but the key would not turn. The car just wanted to make me look silly is all. Some sort of German joke.
