Wow. What a cool project. Can't wait to see and hear your first thoughts about the new motor.

Nope.... Probably not.

Then the copycats just lie and say they make the same power, even though they don't even have a dyno, and haven't even tested their combinations.

It happens all the time.

I can't wait to hear how this turns out. Will the redline be increased on this engine or left as stock?

I would think the new owner would want an independent dyno after spending that kind of $$...just to know what he got!

The owner will get all the dyno results, of course. I have 3 dynes here, 2 engine dynes, and a chassis dyno. I will have 3 different sets of plots from this car, since I repaired the engine thats currently in the car last year (nothing wrong with it today).

I have learned over the years that anything that we post publicly ends up getting used against us. This is why we don't post graphs, under any circumstance.

No, not in this iteration of the combination. The stock hydraulic lifters are not even effective for the stock redline, so we work to make more average power and to DECREASE the point where peak power is made, away from redline. Typically when I perform ECU tunes we turn the rev limiter down, not up, because the extra RPM isn't necessary, and it creates extra friction, extra heat, and kills lifters and valve springs.

No, "tuners" won't tell you this, because they aren't internists and they have no comprehension of the mechanical limitations of these engines. We love them, they blow up lots of lifters and keep our schedule filled with the fruits of their labors.

In a few months this engine will see my L3 cams and even higher performance valve springs, along with my modified tensioners. At that point we may decide to increase the rev limit a few hundred RPM beyond stock. If so, it'll also get my higher performance lifter package.

The car has been dropped off at the shop as of a few minutes ago. The engine is being moved from my clean room at the Research Facility to the main shop on Monday, and the transformation of the vehicle will begin.

Here's how the engine stands right now...

I'm as curious as anyone as to what the motor is going to put down on the dyno. But that really is only 5 minutes of bragging rights. To me its how will the car drive, perform, behave ? That is more important to me. When I originally purchased this vehicle from Jake he provided a dyno chart as a baseline for me. He knows I like records and he didn't have to do that. When Jake and I started talking about this build we talked several scenarios and each scenario I was going to be provided dyno charts. As Jake stated we are going to assemble the engine with all the high performance goodies minus his camshafts. He will dyno the engine and then hand the car over to me. I'll drive it for several months/miles and bring it back. Cams will be pulled and the in house built performance cams will go in. Again another dyno run and I will be provided the data. This scenario really benefits both parties and not many shops would be willing to do this. I have no plans to go to another dyno to see if Jake is telling the truth. For one thing I've known Jake for quite a while and trust him completely. Second you can dyno a car one week and gets results x and a week later on another dyno get results y . Big deal so what. The proof will be in how it drives in real world conditions. My butt dyno will tell me pretty quick how she performs .

I've had a dyno for 20 years, and I'll tell you now, that its not everything. Big peak numbers mean very little if the area under the curve sucks. I grade my engines on average TQ and HP under the curve, rather than peak power. To most shops, the worst tool they can buy is a dyno, because they start shooting for big peak numbers, and to achieve them, they'll leave everything else on the table and not even know it.

As technology gets better and better, people get dumber and dumber, and put our less and less. The art of engine building is one of the last true mechanical challenges left, and while technology can be employed to make a better engine, the human brain must stay engaged at all times.

Yes, thats my 308 GTSi in my last post. I also have a 512TR. In the first pic you can see the Weissach brown 911 SC that used to belong to rfuerst911sc :-)

I also do ferrari work, but only when someone wants to think way outside the box.

That does look a lot cleaner, but I keep the F cars 100% bone original.

yet another hijack! good luck with the engine - no way you won't be happy; i'd say we're all green with envy.

^ that 512TR is worth every Lira. There are probably barely 1,500 high quality condition US versions for sale. 23 years old and it still stops you dead in your tracks. Not bad for a $160K car (adjusted for inflation). That won't even buy you the new GT3 RS.

Yep... I used some foresight when buying these two... I have a line on a 512M that needs an engine rebuild... Its next.

The 308 is going up for sale soon.
