Two-tone seats...should I do it?

I like the two tone look and I like the white stiching idea. Not sure I like the piping.

I like mine, this is after a redye of the leather and the carpet. I personally think a solid color is a bit too dated

Love the look! This is what I was thinking of doing in the future. Maybe a dark Blue on the centers to try & match the Lapis blue exterior.

What did you do? The centers only or everything but the center inserts? Very nice job!

Actually this is stock colors, I just sanded and filled cracks...redyed the carpet and the leather. I then conditioned the seats and that's it.

I'd say, go with alcantera. You get the contrasting look, without making it look like a circus in your car.

I'm a fan of the center section in a lighter color. I have thought about doing mine in light gray or silver. How do you plan on changing it, dye? Recovered?

Personally for me, stock is always best. When it comes to resale, most buyers will walk away when they see non factory "improvements". Very few look right or improve the aesthetics of the car. IMO of course.


EDIT: Just took a closer look at the pictures. Looks great! Two tone it.

Thanks for all of the opinions, but I've decided to go with the piping. It's simple and looks amazing in person!
I've already got the piping sewn up, so working on getting it installed.

Does anyone have any pointers for removing the seat back insert only?

I'm pretty sure it is held in place with some clips. I took a whole seat apart last year. All of the covers are held on with clips. The only thing i remember unscrewing was the coat hanger thing in the middle of the back of the seat. You can stick your hand in between the center parts and the side bolsters.

I had to sew the piping by hand because it was too small for the sewing machine. That part took hours, but attaching it to the cushion only took about 45 mins
You might have to twist my arm a little, haha!

I agree 110%! Besides playing with the Boxster, I enjoy remodeling my house(at times). I've remodeled almost every room(it was a disaster when I bought it) with all new flooring, baseboard, lights, plumbing etc. It is a lot of work but satisfying in the end. I also just finished installing a new HU in my truck complete with CarPlay, hands free, and GPS, it's like having a new truck! I also dabble in home theater/audio/HTPC's(built my own subs)(I built all of my current computers) I love doing all kinds of projects, keeps life interesting! I am not nearly as adept at sewing as you are, but I can do simple projects in a pinch

I've been looking for seat with the Porsche Crest in the head rest along with silver/gray inset and the all seem to come from Boxster 2006+. Would also like to get silver seat belts, but those seem to be custom oder too.

It's not actual piping in the traditional sense, but same effect.
it consists of 4' long strips of leather, folded over and sewn to 1" wide polyester ribbon. The ribbon provided a larger surface for sewing it to the leather seat insert.
The leather was left over from my "http://986forum.com/forums/general-discussions/50640-%247-custom-leather-interior.html".

I dry fitted the ribbon/leather strip around the insert while still in the car, then used masking tape to hold it in the correct position. I then removed the insert, pulled the leather off and stitched it on.
Another added benefit of using the ribbon is that it allowed me to stitch it further back on the insert so that if I decide to remove it or sell the car someday, the stitch holes will not be seen.
That is 1 rule I stick to with my mods: they are all 100% reversible

That looks really sharp and tasteful! I've always been a fan of contrasting stitching or piping if it's not overdone.
The only two-tone I've ever really liked is houndstooth.....

very subtle. How about some piping on the base of the shifter leather? Might give the wide and thin white elements some continuity.
a piping outline on the seat belt receivers and piping on either side of the e-brake (towards the bottom edge) might add to that theme.
