My 2001 does the same thing.
I still have AC and don't really care about heat down here in FL.
(although I have no reason to assume the heat isn't working.....)

That also occurs in my car too. I just pull it through the vent with needle nose pliers.

Good to know its part of the "aging process", LOL....I keep a pair of surgical forceps in the car and pull out the pieces through the vent vouvers that don't blow out on their own.
