Top does not work, where to start?

Hello,
Sometimes I read these postings too fast and miss some details, but in your case, there just weren't enough details. For example, you only state the top does not go up or down. So, just what is happening when you put on the parking brake, pop the latch at the rear view mirror and push the button on the dash? Is the convertible top light illuminated on the dash? Do the windows drop down, does the top's motor run when you push and hold the button? If the motor is running, does it make a loud clicking noise? Does the convertible top boot move, but not the top?
