I've been under the impression since police radars went to laser, radar detectors are worthless?

Anyways, about the heads up display. I'm getting this as I dislike how Porsche put the digi speedo on my car to the far left gauge and at the bottom of it. I like to keep my eyes on the road.

Radar detectors help you out when the officer has their radar on constantly. With more handheld radars and lidars (laser) a radar detector has become less effective.

This. If you got a "save" its probably because someone was too lazy to use the hold button or was doing paperwork and let the radar run to get people with detectors to slow down

I can sit somewhere and hit your car with a radar signal and get a reading before you can even hit the brakes because your radar detector went off. Then I can listen to my radar sound drop as you desperately try to slow down. With laser I've had people say their alarm went off and I already had two separate readings. My favorite is to pull up next to someone in traffic, see they have a radar detector and turn on my radar. Their hysterical paranoia is awesome.

Bottom line best way to avoid a ticket if you get stopped is be honest. You may still get one but chances are you will get a break on the fine or points or you may just get a warning. People who have no clue why I'm stopping them get tickets. Be honest about the reason for the stop and your speed when asked. Don't play the cop for a fool.

I make a habit of buying their meals if they are behind me in a drive through. I have been pulled over a few times and not given a ticket so I figured it is kind of a way to pay it forward

That is exactly what I would do. If they said they haven clue why I pulled them over they would get a ticket. If they said yes and told me they were sorry I would give a warning. If you did not know what you did, you deserve to get a ticket. If you were honest it was an automatic warning depending on severity.

If I get a ticket now I just chalk it up to my annual tax :)

Excellent.

For those on the fence, the V1 can be hard-wired into the dome light. There's DIY on Renntech I think. No need to mess the cigarette lighter. Also with the tiny remote display box, placed under the speedo, you can avoid all the blinking in cabin that attract tail-gaters or smokeys.

p.s.
As for the "need" for a radar detector, I've been pulled over more times in the Boxster than all previous cars combined. Ironic in that I drive within 10 miles of the speed limit for the most part. These cars have a knack of attracting their own small town police escorts. I avoid local roads in small towns like the plague. Big city cops could care less what you're driving or how fast. State troopers different story.

I had a DEFI HUD on my wrx back in the day. Loved that thing. If you get the one post up a review. I have been thinking about getting another defi for sometime now.

I agree, happened to me this morning when the cop came to the window and asked if i knew how fast i was going, i simply said " yes, guess i was little axious since i just took it out of storage".... he dropped my ticket speed from 35 over to 15 over!

NOOOOOO!!!!!! You drove your Boxster on a public road well over the posted speed limit!

I think you should be a hypocrite like coreseller and a couple others, go into the following thread and give that KRAM36 guy a hard time, but please ignore he put nobody in harms way, but himself.

no worries....if i'm going to drive the Box at speed limit, i'll buy a Jetta again, and even that was hard to stay within the law.

Well, you just wait until coreseller hears about this!

Might be something to do with it being red, that stands out long before they can identify it as a Porsche.
