Check the Pelican parts web site.

The "revised design" is just 987 parts. Besides the lever you need the new pivot ball and the retainer clip and the little plastic piece.

The lever isn't any more beefy than the 986 part. The change was really only to address complaints of squeaking from the 986 assembly.

I've got the new parts in my transmission waiting to go back in.
