01 Boxster S - Lapis Blue / grey. Bought used at 4 yrs old & 15K mi, owned for 2.5 yrs & 20K mi. Something was always breaking (too much to list here) & not always covered by CPO.

08 Boxster S LE - Orange / black. Bought new, currently has 37K mi. WP failed at 26K mi & was coverd by warranty. Temp sensor failed and I replaced myself - $40.

07 Cayman S - Carmen Red / beige. Bought used at 4 yrs old & 17K mi, owned 2 yrs & 17K mi. ZERO problems.

08 Cayman S Sport - Signal Green / black. Bought used at 4 yrs old & 7400 mi, currently just turned 20K mi. ZERO problems in 1.25 yrs of ownership.

Not counting maintenance, I've driven my 987s a collective 67K mi and it's cost me $40.

Caymans count as 987s too.

Had at least one of all them.. My favorite all around is the Cayman.

I have to admit that my Wife's Cayenne Turbo after being juiced up is a close second.

BUT I'll take a radiator less Porsche any day over one with a radiator :-)

I am sure the cayenne is a beast, something nice about having a big vehicle with alot speed. The same sort of draw for like a bently or something.

one of the most fascinating things to me about Porsche is how they can use marketing to change the way we see things. The 987 Cayman and Boxster are merely variants and are not different cars. Even Porsche does not separate them out when reporting their sales numbers to shareholders. The 997 Cabriolet and 997 coupe are also variants of the same car except that Porsche did not market spin a new model name for the Cabriolet. A 911 with a softop is still a Carrera. But a Cayman with a softop is a Boxster. Huh?? Ah Porsche marketing...

Porsche charges more for their coupe version than the convertible. How upside down is that? In the first 2 yrs of Cayman existence, it had 15 more HP than a Boxster so there was perceived value with spending more scratch. Since 2008 they both have the same HP. So what are you getting for the extra $5-10K? Only Porsche could pull it off.

It makes perfect sense if you consider their overall marketing strategy. From the minute the Boxster Coupe was unveiled they were marketing it to the press as a "stepping stone" car. For those with Carrera tastes but Boxster pay checks. LOL. Nevermind that Either 987 in tin top or rag top form is a very expensive car. If you can afford such a car in the first place the bank will probably give you the extra cash for a base Carrera. At the time, I had several people ask me about the upcoming Cayman launch, while repeating nearly verbatim, this Cayman "stepping stone car" marketing spin. I could only shake my head. #1 it's a Boxster variant not a 'new' car. #2 it's not a grand touring. #3 it's mid-engine, rear engine is a non-starter for many. But when you say all this people's eyes just glaze over. "so are you going to get one or not!?"

That Porsche shake out a few more pennies ( ) from Cayman buyers vs. Boxster buyers -- for no good reason -- is just the gravy.
