No, it was slower than my DD 1973 TransAm, heavier clutch, A/C was inadequate, not very comfortable. It was a 1978 model with carbs & 5-speed, 7 years old at the time. Looked cool at the time & exhaust sounded good. Transmission felt bulletproof.

As he said, drive one first. I have driven a couple, 308 and a 328, MAJOR letdowns, both.

As it has been alluded to, be careful what you wish for. My partner just got his 1969 Shelby GT500 back from the restoration shop this spring after it was being worked on for 2 years, he parked it in 1980 and it had sat in his barn since.

After his first drive in it......Talk about a grown man looking like he just found out the truth about Santa......his daily driver is a Caddy CTS-V.

I watched it! My first car was a 1967 Burnt Orange Firebird. If I remember right, it was around mid 300's build. I ended up selling it when my foot went through the floor pan:eek: It was a Wisconsin car(living there at the time) so the winter salt took its toll:mad: I still love the looks of the early model but to have one now it would have to be a restomod and even then, I would not want to give up my Boxster.

I gotta call BS on most of what I read in that link. I owned 14, 67-74 Firebirds over the 25 years before I sold my last one 11 years ago to buy my Boxster. I've seen many far more desirable Firebirds sell for half the price these allegedly sold for. :rolleyes:

Yeah this was my car also. Don't remember how old I was but seeing those two female drivers in Canon Ball Run sealed the deal for me. Now I find out what you have to do to reverse and parallel park this thing. :eek::eek::eek:

You actually half to sit or the door sill and look backwards while pressing the gas pedal so you can see. Now I think, what were they thinking. Ever a car that needs a backup camera, this is it. Sorry if I ruined it for you.

I, too was a Magnum PI fan (308 and 328), lusted for the Countach, and of course, the 928 from Risky Business, even if it was a base.

Never meet your childhood Heros haha! Regardless of the quality to drive these cars all look great!

Wow! Talk about a flashback to the past. :eek: I remember seeing these great racing machines during the "pony car wars" of the late '60s and early 70's.

They were formidable beasts, and all the Detroit factories were players. Invoking the NASCAR idiom of "Win on Sunday, sell on Monday", they hired the best drivers in the business, and from all disciplines. Parnelli Jones, Dan Gurney, Mark Donahue, Peter Revson, George Follmer, David Pearson, Swede Savage, Sam Posey and Jerry all slugged it out on the best road courses in America.

Lots of great stories from that era. Google it sometime.
