To answer your second question, no, the engine number does not match the car vin number.

I got a surprise when I checked my engine number. The engine had been replaced in 2006 with an M97 engine (the car's a 2003 S). The guy I bought the car from was not aware of this (he said). So my engine has 35,000 fewer miles than the rest of the car, not a bad thing.
