Who made my transmission?

I was told that the 986 has had 3 different tranny manufacturers: Porsche, Mercedes and Audi (?) How would I be able to know who made my tranny?

Try asking Aisin (Toyota) or Getrag, who made most of the Porsche gearboxes.

My understanding is that the 5-speed was made by VAG (Audi) and the 6-speed is a Getrag.

Here is a link to a discussion on the 5-speed:

The five speed is an Aisin, who also makes Audi gearboxes; the six speed is a Getrag.

Wait - the transmission isn't a Porsche? Do they build transmissions for 911's any more either? I always knew the 901/915/G50 were Porsche so this is news to me!
