Looks like you got a nice setup and you can feel it in your bones. Cool!

As for the trans, I would change the fluid and run the old stuff through a strainer. Pay attention to the color of the fluid and the shiny bits in the screen. That should tell you the story. Fluid that is heavily discolored with lots of sparkles means you will be probably be shopping for a gearbox soon. If the old stuff looks reasonably clean, some fresh oil might smooth out the shifting.
