If you are just learning to autoX, Tip is a blessing as it's 1 less distraction to deal with.

Just down shift to 1st at the starting line & let the Tip do the rest, while you focus on the course, steering & braking.

I got the same advice from a Lotus 61 pilot I met at a restaurant when he parked his trailer after an autocross and we started talking about autocrossing.

I was out exercising my S and he encouraged me to try autox.

No problem, I have both a boxster S and a 996 C4 tiptronic that I autocross and on most courses both stay in 2nd gear all the way thru
