60 in a 50 zone (100kmh in an 80 zone actually) cost me over $600... don't get me started about what it costs to live here. And as an added bonus, radar detectors are illegal. :ah:

Seat belt alarms? The P.O. must have disabled them because I've never heard one. I always put the belt on reflexively, but I was pleasantly surprised not to be nagged about it. "Porsche repects the intelligence of its customers!", I thought.

Anyway, I haven't had a ticket in about 20 years, but suspect I'm overdue for one now that I'm driving a Porsche. I will fight it, though. Thanks for suggesting it.

I was cited doing 37 in a 25 with radar and beat the ticket. I am sure all states are different but here in California you can plead not guilty by written declaration and provide the details of your side of the story. In my case I provided google maps overhead photos showing the road and the nearest houses etc. Supplied photos of the road from where I was when pulled over and from where the cop was with the radar.
Basically using the basic speed law as a defense - again a California concept. I also noted that unless the police department can provide a recent survey of the road they may in fact have been using an illegal speed trap.
Also challenge the police to provide documentation regarding the calibration of the radar unit.
I found an on line resource that basically provided the "template" for the declaration.
I posted the bail and submitted the declaration and in about 60 days I received notice that the police dept would not challenge my declaration - and cashiers check refund on my bail.

If you like I can try and find a copy of my declaration - again it is based on California law so it may not be applicable.

Nice car!

I'll see what Utah law says. I had a cop once tell me (sheriff from same county) that it's their word against yours, and the radar is just one tool or piece of evidence and if you had a trip recorder that showed you never sped that would be evidence as well. It's the points. I have 2 tickets about to drop off to have a break to be back to zero.

Just go to Traffic School. Old guy with the 'stche is funny. He polls the "class" asking where they got caught and then tells you where the cops sit.

100 on a 65. Speeding in the highway trying to catch a flight.
Cop pulls me over, gets out of patrol and when he's right beside me... he SCOFFS!
Turns out he knew my friend on the passenger seat, recognized him from high school.
Let go with a "don't go too fast"
FTW!

It really is all about the money. Period. Get a lawyer, you pay them, they cut a deal with local law enforcement, you walk away usuallly paying less $$ overall with no hurt, no foul, see ya next time! Chalk it up to cost of doing business.

Was about to say how horrendous it sounds driving in the US but looks like there are some advantages over there compared to the UK.

Mistakes are made here, but generally, they're very efficient at serving tickets correctly and the courts and legal process are very loaded against you.

That said, despite the complaining you hear, out of town the road policing is generally pretty light. Much of the time you can set your speed according to how you enjoy driving, road conditions and your view ahead rather than according to the arbitrary speed limits.

I'm talking about single carriageways, not multi-lane highways / freeways / motorways. Those kinds of roads are much more heavily policed but that's no great loss as driving fast on the motorway is hardly engaging or fun and you can generally cruise at 85mph without attraction unwanted attention, which is a tolerable pace in terms of getting places reasonably swiftly.

Having said all that, it doesn't take much to get banned - even a custodial sentence is possible. There but for the grace of god, really. If you are really driving a car like a Boxster to enjoy it - even a base model - you'll be doing fairly big triple-digit speeds at times on your favourite roads. Get caught doing that and you could be in big trouble. It's all too easily done.

I have used the Ticket Clinic here in Florida. Haven't had them beat one (don't think they try too hard) but they do get adjudication removed so no points. Usually ending up paying more but no insurance hit.
I also use an Escort 9500ix and Escort Live app on my phone. The combo has saved me many times - I went through 4 traps just on the way to work yesterday. The Escort has GPS so it also shows you where all of the red light cameras are too. I will soon add laser shifters.

I think that is what they called it! It wasn't a fine because I had not been found guilty. I had to post some dough to file the declaration - which was refunded much like bail would be. I do not btw have any other bail experience

"Attempted" suggests failure
I would have thought that a Celica was more capable, especially with an eager driver and passenger in High School

Did you fight that ticket?

Okay I was being humble and didn't want to cite the numerous violations of that "speed law" , among others, that I performed in that Celica.

Ah the things we do in our youth, God I miss them, lol.

Bail, short for Bailment. Funds surrendered in lu of surrendering oneself to custody. In this case posting the amount of the fine until a decision is made. This serves to minimize people protesting in order to put off paying.

My brother-in-law owns the oldest Bail Bonds biz in O.C. CA Bob Drake Bail Bonds.

Vet plates can pay for themselves

5:15 AM clocked doing 45 in a 25 mph zone. Officer asked me if I knew how fast I going. Told him yes, I did. Officer checked my driver's license then called his dispatcher w/my info. Officer hands back my license and says "you're a Vietnam vet, no way am I giving you a ticket." I paid extra for those Vietnam Veteran plates just for that reason. Paid off. Gave me a verbal warning.
p.s. I actually am a Vietnam vet
