However, at autocrosses, I typically launch around 3000rpm and get just a bit of spin. If it's cold or the track is slick, I'll back off from that number.

$100 DE's??? I wish we had DE events that cheap at VIR. DE's there seem to be at least $250/day. Even the single session "taste of the track" is $50.
When you launch are you easing the clutch out or straight dumping the clutch?

And when I say easing I don't mean super slow but maybe a 1 second release

The only way to launch is to rev up to 6500 RPM, let the clutch out till it starts to grab, floor the accelerator and hold it there and the rest of the launch is all clutch. Feather the clutch so that you keep the rpms above 6500 and the wheels don't spin.

A few of these launches and you wont have a clutch.

I get pointed by by Mustangs all the time on the track. Red light racing is just too hard on the clutch. Whats the point?

I came up to a stop light last week in my 2000 Boxster S. Aftermarket exhaust, UDP, and some other light mods that give me a nice sound. Guy next to me is in a brand new Tesla Model S. I didn't rev my engine or even pretend that I was up for a race, but somehow he thought it was on. He took off like a bat out of hell. There was no way I could have even BARELY kept up. That thing was plain GONE!!

Tip - don't race a Tesla :-)

LOL so true. I was following behind one on my drive from Orlando to Miami.
One minute we're doing 80...lane opens up in front of him..
Bang! in barely a blink that guy is a spec in the distance. It was like watching Star Wars.

I would not recommenced launching the car unless you have upgraded your clutch. That's how I ended up changing mine.
